About Actuate Information Console security

A reporting web application is accessible to any user who has a web browser and the URI for the application. This chapter discusses the Actuate Information Console security features and how to use them to:

n	Ensure that users access only those objects in the Encyclopedia volume for which they have permission.

n	Protect sensitive reports.

The types of security you can provide for Information Console are:

n	Default user authentication. Use the default Information Console and Actuate BIRT iServer facilities to ensure that users access only those reports and other Encyclopedia volume items for which they have permission.

n	User authentication using the Information Console Security Extension (IPSE). Use IPSE to customize and control the user login and authentication process. For details about implementing custom user authentication, see Creating a custom security adapter.
