Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF)

A Java framework and code generation facility that uses a structured model to build tools and other applications. EMF uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas to generate the EMF model of a plug-in. For example, in BIRT technology, a chart type uses EMF to represent the chart structure and properties.
