extension point

A defined place in an application where a developer adds custom functionality. The application programming interfaces (API) in BIRT support adding custom functionality to the BIRT framework. In the Eclipse Plug-in Development Environment (PDE), a developer views the extension points in the PDE Manifest Editor to guide and control plug-in development tasks.
