A connection configuration file is an XML file that sets the data source connection properties to use when iServer runs a report. Externalizing data source connection information in this file enables an administrator to modify these settings without modifying the report.iServer expects the configuration file to use UTF8 encoding. You also can use a file that only has ASCII characters. The settings that you use in a connection configuration file override the settings in a report.
