1 In Actuate BIRT technology, an extension used by the Eclipse development environment. At run time, Eclipse scans its plug-in subdirectory to discover any extensions to the platform. Eclipse places the information about each extension in a registry, using lazy load to access the extension.
2 A software program that extends the capabilities of a web browser. For example, a plug-in gives you the ability to play audio samples or video movies.
