One of the discrete values that organizes the data on an area, bar, bubble, column, line, step, or stock chart axis. A category axis does not use a numeric scale. Typically, category values appear on the x-axis of a chart. In a pie chart, category values define which sectors appear in a pie, as shown in Figure G-5.
