Designing data objects for reports created with Report Studio

Report Studio is a web-based report design tool on iHub designed for users who want to create reports quickly and easily without deep understanding of database architecture or report design techniques. Report Studio users create reports using predefined data sources and templates that provide the data and basic layout for their reports.

The data objects you create should provide the data in a structure that is appropriate for business users and for the report elements that users can add to a report. The design guidelines discussed in the previous topic apply here as well, except for the following:

In Report Studio, a chart uses data from a table in a report. The chart does not use data directly from a data set, a data model, or a cube.

Report parameters in a data object do not link to parameters created in Report Studio, so you typically do not include report parameters in a data object that you create for Report Studio users.
