Getting current data from a data source
When you select an information object or data object, Report Studio makes the data fields in the information object or data object available to your BIRT design. The information object or data object remains on the server and can be modified after you design your BIRT design. For example, a data administrator can add or remove fields from an information object or data object. This section describes how to make sure the data displayed in your BIRT design is current.
Refreshing data in an information object
To ensure that your BIRT design uses current data from an information object, you can synchronize your data set with the data set in the modified information object. To synchronize a data set, you must have an advanced user role.
How to synchronize data sets
In Available Data, choose Synchronize Data Sets, as shown in Figure 3‑10. If a new field has been added to the information object, the new field appears in the list. If a field is removed from the information object, the field is removed from the list. If your BIRT design uses a field that is no longer available, Report Studio displays an error message. To fix it, delete the column from the BIRT design.

Refreshing data in a data object
You can also refresh data in a modified data object so that the BIRT design uses the most current data. Choose Manage Data. In Select Data, choose Refresh to retrieve the most recent data from a data object store or cube. The current data fields appear in Available Data in Report Studio.
If you select Refresh when you create a new BIRT design that uses a data object store, nothing happens because you have selected a new data object store file, and there are no existing data fields in the table that Report Studio can refresh.
